The Anaheim Ducks are hoping to take the next step in their rebuild this off-season, as GM Pat Verbeek has already noted a couple of areas of concern that he’d like to address in free agency or on the trade market, notably a top-six winger and a top-four defenseman.
When it comes to trade talks, however, there are a few Ducks that will not be leaving the pond, as outlined by Eric Stephens of The Athleticwhat channel can i watch the winnipeg jets game on. He names three “untouchables” that won’t be traded under any circumstances.
Last year’s No. 2 overall pick in the NHL Draft had an up-and-down rookie season finishing with 12 goals and 29 points in 55 games. Despite all the trials and tribulations, he should be set as the team’s top center for the future.
At this time last season, no one could have foreseen Gauthier’s name on this Ducks list. As a top-five pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2022, Gauthier made it known at mid-season that he had no interest in ever suiting up in Philly, and the Flyers were forced to deal him, with the Ducks obliging, sending their own former top-five pick, Jamie Drysdale, in exchange.
Gauthier got into just one game with the Ducks, and registered an assist, while showing he belonged, likely as a first-line mate with Carlsson for the foreseeable future.
The 20-year-old D-man missed 19 games due to injury in his rookie season but still managed to record 28 points while playing just under 19 minutes per game. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft clearly displayed that he’s ready for top-four minutes on the Ducks blueline, and he won’t be going anywhere.
