The new jerseys don’t have extravagant feathers protruding from every angle like a Las Vegas showgirl, but they’re about as close as the team and Adidas could get.
Vegas announced its new third jerseys Friday morning, which feature the first all-metallic gold material in the history of the NHL. The shimmering gold material is a first-of-its-kind metallic ultra knit iteration of the Adidas Adizero, and it’s brighter than any uniform in the sport, just as owner Bill Foley had hoped.
“The vision started in 2017 during our first season,” Golden Knights senior vice president and chief marketing officer Brian Killingsworth said Friday. “Bill had the idea that as the Vegas Golden Knights we needed a gold jersey to complement our gray and white jerseys. So we started working with Adidas and the whole process took a little over two years from start to finish, with multiple rounds of testing.”ottawa senators custom jerseys jd sports
The jerseys went on sale Friday at 10:30 a.m. PT, and are available at The Arsenal team store inside City National Arena, The Armory at T-Mobile Arena, and online at vegasteamstore.comwho is the captain of the ottawa senators. The first 777 jerseys sold at The Arsenal will include a third jersey, customization of the jersey and a commemorative gold coin for $499. The first 300 of those will come with that same package, along with special edition metallic gold Adidas Ultraboost shoes for $777.
It’s a day fans have waited many months for. The jerseys have taken much longer than anticipated to create, mostly because of the difficulties the team had creating the right shade of gold.
“There was a lot of doubt, I think on both sides (in the beginning), because we asked for something that had never been done before,” Killingsworth said. “This product, with the metallic look, really it’s the first metallic gold jersey in sports.”
The team went through multiple different shades of gold trying to perfect the look, tossing aside iterations that looked too yellow, or brownottawa senators first round picks. They landed on a gold that matches the logo and includes small pieces of glitter throughout.
“The signature element of this particular jersey is the newly developed metallic gold fabric,” said Dan Near, senior director of Adidas Hockey. “Under the lights it will dazzle fans as it shimmers, sparkles and marks a key innovation from Adidas that meshes perfectly with the Golden Knights brand.”
Before being approved for use and sale, the jerseys had to pass eight tests by Adidas, including everything from performance, to wear and how they look on TV.
“Adidas kind of knows what to expect from us,” Killingsworth said with a laugh. “They are great partners but they know it’s going to be different.”
“While every uniform project has its own challenges, this took extraordinary patience,” Near said. “Uniquely, the entire project also had a pass or fail attribute to it – our innovative in design aesthetic, performance and color all had to hit a very specific set of criteria – no one in the process had a difference of opinion on the deliverable and the target was clear. The team doesn’t yet have a plan for when the jersey will be worn by players on the ice, but Killingsworth said, “We’ll get this into a regular rotation. You look at how the NHL works with different teams and how they wear them throughout the season. It depends on how our schedule sits, but we look to work it into a heavy rotation throughout the season.”
The Golden Knights will wear the third jersey along with their white gloves usually worn with the road uniforms. The jerseys also have one of Foley’s philosophies, “Always advance, never retreat” embroidered inside the collar.
I’m sure some fans will think they’re too gaudy or over the top. Some will love them. But there’s no denying the Golden Knights new jerseys are extremely “Vegas.”
